An Evening with Ladysmith Black Mambazo
Experience the exhilarating a cappella sound and rhythms of Ladysmith Black Mambazo and the instrumental melodies of The Parker Boyd Project on Sunday, July 16.
Ladysmith Black Mambazo, a chorus from South Africa, has defied the odds and other oppressive South African homeland to become the continent's number one recording artists, representing the traditional culture of South Africa. The group is noted for singing a cappella isicathamiya and mbube music and has been singing together since the early 1950s. Paul Simon recruited Ladysmith Black Mambazo to record on his classic GRACELAND album in 1986, and they went on to participate in the Graceland world tour.
New to the Louisville music scene, The Parker Boyd Project combines the skill and experience of a veteran percussionist with the talent of a rising young musician. Playing marimba, vibes, and xylophone, Parker and Boyd perform an eclectic mix of music from classical to contemporary.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Science Center's fourth floor Riverview Room. Tickets are on sale for $30 for Science Center members, $35 for non-members. For reservations, contact the Science Center at (502) 561-6100, ext. 6111.
